How to Get the Most Out of Your Free Vehicle Checklist

You downloaded the checklist. It's been sitting in your downloads folder for three weeks. Sound familiar? Here's how to actually make it stick.

Keep a copy where you'll actually see it. A PDF buried in your downloads folder doesn't help anyone. Print it, or save it somewhere you'll open before a trip: your phone's notes app, your glovebox, wherever you'll realistically look.

Run through it on a schedule, not just when something feels wrong. The whole point of a checklist is catching small issues before they become expensive ones. That only works if you check regularly, not just after you've already heard a noise you're worried about.

Do it before long trips, every time. A five-minute check before a road trip is a lot cheaper than a breakdown two hours from home.

Write down what you find. Even a rough note (date, what you checked, anything unusual) turns a one-off checklist into a running history of your vehicle. That history is exactly what a mechanic wants to see if something does come up, and it's what you'll want if you ever sell the car.
